Protect Your New Beetle's Foglights!
The low position of the foglights on the New Beetle make these lenses prone to cracking, pitting, or breaking from stones or road salt! Repair of the lens is around THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS U.S. as there are about 5 hours of labour to remove the fenders and bumper to get at the grille.
The easiest and least costly method of protecting the lenses from damage is to add these Stoneguards by 3M. These clear, adhesive disks install over the glass lens in only 5 minutes. Guaranteed to be free from defects in material and workmanship, and costs only FIFTEEN DOLLARS U.S./pair (20 Dollars Canadian), including shipping, these are the way to go to safeguard your lenses.
Don't just take my word. Check out the popular VW website, Beetle Buzz,
where a thorough test was performed on my product, with excellent results. And, don't forget to read their long-term test report on the Stoneguards... (photo by Kerri Law). (Sorry, site has since been shut down, but take my word for it.)
MESSERSCHMITT KR-200 LEAKING FUEL TAP RETROFIT:
Those of you fortunate enough to own a Messerschmitt KR-200 most likely have the headache of a leaking fuel tap. Over the years, fuel leaks out of the tap, dripping onto the rubber suspension donut, and slowly eating this away! One day you suddenly don't have any suspension, and the whole assembly may collapse, thereby tearing away at the aluminum suspension arm. Don't ask! Of course, this happened to me, leading to a total rebuild of the assembly, special aluminum welding of the arm, sourcing the rubber donuts, and putting everything together again. With a job, lack of funds, and laziness, this lead to my car being off the road for about 7 years!
So, why put it all together with the old fuel tap, only to slowly leak fuel again all over your new donut?? It's fairly straight forward to get an electric fuel solenoid, and the proper fittings, and you won't need that fuel tap. The only disadvantage to the new technology is that you won't have the reserve fuel tank feature, but if you make sure you have enough fuel in the tank before each drive, you'll be ok.
Because it's hard to source the proper parts on the internet, I am listing them here. You may buy them from your own source, otherwise I can provide them for you. If I do it, the total cost will be $50 US, plus shipping, for everything you need, including a new fuel line.
Here is a parts list:
1-Inverted flare connector; 3/8 flare X 1/4 FIP
3-Brass barbed fitting, 3/16 HSE X 1/4 MIP
Fibre braid fuel hose, 3/16 X 2.5 feet
1/4" electric solenoid valve 12V gas, B20N
